This exchange and dual degree program between USC Upstate and University of Applied Sciences Landshut (UAS Landshut) to provide unique opportunities for students to either study abroad for one semester or earn a second bachelor's degree in select majors.

Description

This exchange and dual degree program between USC Upstate and University of Applied Sciences Landshut (UAS Landshut) to provide unique opportunities for students to either study abroad for one semester or earn a second bachelor's degree in select majors.

Dual degree program option is currently available for eligible USC Upstate students majoring in Business, Computer Science and Informatics. Students would travel and study at UAS Landshut a few weeks before classes begin to receive a short-term, intensive German language course. The one year of study abroad in Landshut would also include an internship experience as one of the requirements for earning a degree from a German university. A thesis (research project) will also be required to graduate from UAS Landshut. After completing the year abroad program, students will return to Upstate to finish the remainder of their degree requirements at USC Upstate. Upon graduation from USC Upstate, students will also apply to receive their degree from UAS Landshut.

Semester study abroad option is available to USC Upstate students from other majors, depending on availability of courses taught in English, or the applicant's German language skills.

UAS Landshut was founded in 1987, includes five colleges, and enrolls about 5,000 students. UAS Landshut has become one of the top ranked German universities of Applied Sciences. Small class sizes with practical, hands-on training are the basis for their interdisciplinary curriculum which was built to meet the demands of the ever-changing business landscape.

Academics

Program Options:
1. Semester Abroad Programs and Eligibility Requirements
USC Upstate students who are approved to study abroad for at University of Applied Sciences Landshut will be enrolled full-time (12-15 credit hours per semester). Language of instruction at UAS Landshut is German with limited coursework offered in English.

USC Upstate students may enroll in most courses at the University of Applied Sciences Landshut if they fulfill prerequisites (if applicable) and language competency.

Prior to enrolling for courses at University of Applied Sciences Landshut, students must obtain pre-approval by the student's academic department in order to pre-determine credit transferability and how such credit hours would apply towards student’s degree completion at USC Upstate.

USC Upstate students who take part in this semester or year abroad program will need to complete their academic advising requirement with their academic department, but they will not need to register for any courses through Self-Service Carolina. Instead, students will be registered in the required amount of INTL U398 or U399 credit hours as part of their application process. The INTL code reflects that a student is completing credit hours overseas and is still fully enrolled at USC Upstate.

2. Dual Degree Program; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
Admission requirements include:

  • Currently enrolled USC Upstate student
  • 36 credit hours of Business coursework completed prior to program enrollment. (Conditional admission may be considered for applicants who are in progress of earning 36 hours at the time of application.)
  • 72 credit hours completed overall
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • In good standing with USC Upstate
  • Maintain concurrent enrollment at USC Upstate and UAS Landshut

3. Dual Degree Program; Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Information Management and Systems
Admission requirements include:

  • Currently enrolled USC Upstate student
  • Completion of general education requirements
  • 27 credit hours in Computer Science or Informatics completed prior to program enrollment. (Conditional admission may be considered for applicants who are in progress of earning 27 hours at the time of application.)
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Completed CSCI U300 - Computer Science II
  • In good standing with USC Upstate
  • Maintain concurrent enrollment at USC Upstate and UAS Landshut
4. Dual Degree Program; Bachelor of Science in Information Management and Systems
Admission requirements include:
 
  • Currently enrolled USC Upstate student
  • Completion of general education requirements
  • 27 credit hours in Computer Science or Informatics completed prior to program enrollment. (Conditional admission may be considered for applicants who are in progress of earning 27 hours at the time of application.)
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • In good standing with USC Upstate
  • Maintain concurrent enrollment at USC Upstate and UAS Landshut

Students studying in Germany are required to demonstrate adequate financial resources for the duration of their study through the use of a "blocked/frozen bank account." For additional information please refer to the German Blocked/Frozen Bank Account FAQ.

Housing

Hochschule Landshut will provide assistance in reserving appropriate student housing after application completion and confirmation of enrollment in the study abroad program. Exchange students are typically placed within shared housing with other university students within walking distance of the university campus. Exact rent will be determined by which residence hall the students select.

Apply

Early planning and application is very important in preparation for going abroad. Students may start their application for studying abroad at any time. However, submitted applications will be reviewed only during the application cycle of the respective program. Passport information is not required to start your study abroad application; although a valid passport is required to take part in any international program. 

To begin your application, click APPLY NOW tab, and you will be prompted to login in using your USC Upstate username and password. 

Applications for semester abroad at one of USC Upstate’s partner universities will not be processed until applicants have paid the $500 study abroad deposit. Additional information about the deposit, and instructions for how to submit payments, are provided in the application portal.

The USC Upstate study abroad application is divided into two stages: pre-decision and post-decision. Students who complete the first half of the application will then be asked to confirm or withdraw their application. Students who confirm their participation will then have access to the post-decision portion of the application. All required elements of both sections of the application must be completed for a student to be eligible to take part in a study abroad program. 

After completion of the USC Upstate study abroad application, completion of the host institution's application is required. The host institution abroad reserves the right to deny admission into the study abroad program.
